Pakistan and Indian to discuss possibility of reviving hockey series

Pakistan hockey officials will meet here on Thursday to discuss possibility of reviving Pak-India hockey series. Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday at a reception hosted by Shahid Malik , Pakistan High Commissioner to India in honour of members of Pakistan hockey team, Suresh Kalmari said “sports diplomacy” can play important role in lowering tension between Pakistan and India.
Expressing gratitude to Pakistan for supporting India in hosting Commonwealth games, Suresh Kalmari said without this support it was not possible for India to hold such a mega sports event.
He said strong “sporting links” between both the neighbouring countries can change the atmosphere in South Asia.
Suresh Kalmari said he would hold meeting with Pakistan hockey officials here on Thursday to discuss possibility of launching Pakistan-India hockey series to promote cordial relations between both the neighbouring countries.
He said there was a strong need to lift hockey in both the countries from their present state of affair.
Later, Pakistan High Commissioner presented souvenir to Suresh Kalmari.
Speaking at the reception, Shahid Malik said through conviction and commitment, Pakistan would regain past glory in hockey. There was no need to be disheartened as by analysing the situation and learning from mistakes, Pakistan would bounce back in coming tournaments. The team has great potential, he said.
Asif Bajwa on the occassion said Pakistan hockey team’s performance was good in last Asian games. But in Hockey World Cup, the team did not play as was expected from them.
