KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) coaching committee have decided to bring back Stephen van Huizen to the national team to work alongside Tai Beng Hai.
Stephen was national coach in 1999 and 2000 and he took the team to the Sydney Olympics.
Both Stephen and Beng Hai will become assistant coaches when the MHF secure the services of a foreigner. A final decision on the foreign coach is expected tomorrow at the MHF management committee meeting.
The MHF coaching committee chairman, Dr Balbir Singh, said yesterday: “Stephen has worked a long time with the national team previously and has vast experience.
“Our recommendation is for both Stephen and Beng Hai to be part of the national set-up if a foreign coach is appointed.”
For the team geared towards the 2013 Junior World Cup Finals, the coaching committee at their meting on Saturday picked K. Rajan, K. Dharmaraj and Nasir Mydin for the task and they have left it to the MHF executive committee to name the chief coach. And the coaches for the national Under-16 team are S. Vellapan, S.
