16-05 Bangladesh miserable eliminated out of Asian Games

Hosts Bangladesh was miserably eliminated from the Asian Games Hockey with a frustrating 0-1 goal defeat against Singapore in a Robi Asian Games Qualifying Hockey match at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Saturday, reports UNB.

With the day's debacle, Bangladesh, which earlier eyed the top slot in the seven-nation qualifying hockey, made a shameful exit from the meet making one of their worst result in Asian qualifying hockey.

Pre-tournament favorite Bangladesh earned only one win (8-1) against winless Thailand in their first match. The outcome of the remaining four matches were nothing but full of sorrow and frustration.

Apart from the day's match, Bangladesh conceded a frustrating 5-7 goals defeat against Chinese Taipei in the 2nd match, split points with Hong Kong in a 2-2 draw in the 3rd match and almost the shattered hope playing to a 3-3 draw against Sri Lanka in the 4th match.

Oman confirmed a berth in the Asian Games Hockey finals crushing Chinese Taipei by 5-1 goals (first half 2-0) at the same venue this (Saturday) afternoon.

Earlier, in the morning, Sri Lanka beat Thailand 4-3 in a keenly contested match at the same venue.
