11-07 Malaysia China called off duo to rain China leading in first half
2010-07-11 06:07:00
The final round-robin match between Malaysia and China at a four-nation hockey tournament in Dalian was called off after half time when the pitch became unplayable due to heavy rain.
Both teams have qualified for the final today. But they have been told that the second half of the match has to be completed in the morning before they play in the final at 4pm.
China were leading Malaysia 2-1 when the match was called off yesterday.
National coach Stephen van Huizen said that it was unreasonable to play the second half in the morning and then play again after seven hours.
“We spoke to the tournament director and felt that since both are in the final, there was no need to play the second half. But he insisted that the match must be completed and play will resume at 7am,” he said.
Malaysia and China reached the final after securing wins over Pakistan and Russia. Malaysia beat Pakistan 3-0 and downed Russia 3-2. China recorded a 6-1 and 5-2 wins over Pakistan and Russia respectively.
