09-09 Poonam to captain girls hockey Asia U18

Poonam Rani was on Friday named captain of the 18-member Indian squad for the third girls under-18 hockey Asia Cup, to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from September 16-25.


India have been placed in Pool B alongwith China, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan.


Pool A comprises Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore and Chinese Taipei.


The Indian squad has two goal-keepers, five defenders, five mid-fielders and six forward players.


B K Subramani will be the chief coach of the side while N S Saini and Pritam Siwach will be the assistant coaches, according to the Hockey India press release.


Squad: Goalkeepers: Bigan Soy, Swati Defenders : Jaspreet Kaur, Sandeep Kaur, Apoorva Vishwakarma, Balvinder Kaur Mehra, Deep Grace Ekka


Midfielders: Poonam Rani (C), Neha, Namita Toppo, Nikki Pradhan, Shivani Bisht.

 

Forwards: Neha Goyal, Navjot Kaur, Surabhi Pradhan Anupa Barla, Nilima Minz, Renuka Rajputaini.
