Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has been in a hunt for hiring foreign coach for the national team after a disastrous World Cup campaign in New Delhi earlier this year. However, poor law and order situation in the terrorism-hit South Asian country has been standing in the way of a foreign coach and the PHF.

Now a foreign coach has finally showed some courage and guts to travel down to Pakistan as Dutch hockey coach Michael van den Heuvel to discuss with Federation’s top brass for a possible stint with the Pakistani hockey team.

Sources in Pakistan Hockey Federation told The Sports Encounter scribe here Friday that the Dutch hockey coach called on PHF President, Qasim Zia and PHF Secretary Asif Bajwa this evening to discuss the terms and conditions of the likely contract for the job.

Sources further stated that after the initial round of talks, the PHF authorities have offered Michael a package of Rs0.7 million to Rs1 million, while a decision by the former Holland hockey player is yet to be taken.

Asif Bajwa told The Sports Encounter that a final decision with regards to appointment of a foreign coach for the national team would be made by June 9 or 10.

Sources have claimed that Michael van is favourite to achieve the PHF job after Paul Lissek of Germany refused to join hands with the PHF for the revival of the National Game in Pakistan
