02-07 Sri Lanka school hockey starts today

The Sri Lanka School Hockey championships 2010 for boys and girls under 17 conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association together with Matale Schools Hockey Committee will get underway at Matale form July 1 to 4.

The venues for the championship are Edward Park, Bernard Aluvihare Stadium and Nandimitra Ekanayake Astro turf – Matale.

According to the chairman of the tournament committee Malraj Pigera of St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena, the four day tournament has attracted fifty teams (28 boys and 22 girls) form Colombo, Kandy, Matale, Badulla, Galle, Gampaha and Wennappuwa Educational regions.

Accommodation for outstation teams will be provided at St. Thomas’, Christ Church and Vijaya Colleges for boys and Sri Sangamitta NS and Sirimavo Bandaranayake Model for girls.

Last year Dharmaraja College and Kingswood College, Kandy became joint Champions in the boys segment while Pushpadana Girls and Seetha Devi Girls, Kandy were declared joint champions in the girls segment in the tournament played at Panadura.
